Dear Salem Alumnae and Friends,
Over the past few months, we, like many of you, have had the recent challenges at Salem Academy and College on our hearts and minds. The next three months are critical for Salem, and we have agreed to be part of the solution. We are asking you to do the same.
Salem’s leadership, the Board of Trustees, President Sandra J. Doran, and Head of School Carol Killebrew, have already taken aggressive action to right the ship. But they cannot do this alone. Salem has launched a $10 million fundraising campaign to fortify our economic stability. Because of our belief in Salem’s mission, our confidence in the leadership, and our gratitude for the unwavering efforts of the faculty and staff, we have committed to lead the Step Up for Salem campaign.
This short-term, focused campaign has a goal of raising $10 million in unrestricted gifts by June 30, 2019. These funds will be used to support the Academy operational budget (Academy Fund goal of $1 million) and the College operational budget (College Fund goal of $3 million) and to reduce institutional debt (a goal of $6 million). The success of this campaign will make a difference – by alleviating pressure on institutional resources so that Salem can continue to provide an exceptional educational experience for our students.
Please Step Up for Salem today. Join us in investing in our beloved institution which has touched all of our lives – through our own transformational education and life-long friendships, the tremendous impact that Salem has had on someone we love, or within our local community. Salem is worth your investment. If you have not ever given, please make your first gift. Every gift counts, and participation by alumnae and friends matters as we seek corporate and foundation contributions. If you are already a donor, please make a stretch gift. NOW is a critical time for individuals and community partners to invest in our historic and irreplaceable Academy and College. Cash gifts made to the Academy and College Funds prior to December 31, 2018, will have the greatest impact.
Since 1772 Salem Academy and College has been at the forefront of education for girls and women. Recently Salem’s president, Sandra J. Doran, was asked if there is still a need for girls’ schools and women’s colleges. Please reflect for a minute. We absolutely need confident, resilient, and compassionate women who have been intentionally encouraged and keenly prepared to take their place in a diverse society in order to make this nation and world a better place. The answer is YES, more than ever, there is a compelling need for a place like Salem.
We believe in Salem, and we earnestly urge you to be a part of Salem’s success story. Our goal to raise $10 million is bold, and with your commitment, we can do it. Please Step Up for Salem by making a gift, as generously as you can, to the Salem Academy or College Fund to ensure a Salem experience for girls and women of today and tomorrow.
